You have undoubtedly heard numerous co-workers brag that they are “multi-taskers”. Most people assume a multi-tasker is someone who can perform numerous tasks, but in reality it can prevent a worker from being productive. Here are a few time management tips to assist you in staying focused during your workday:
Checking Email – instead of reading emails as they come in, set aside a specific time 2-3 times a day to check your emails. Try changing your settings in Outlook to turn off the notification feature.
Prioritize Your Day – Interruptions can kill your workflow. If you are working on a top priority project, just learn to say “no” to questions or requests that could be handled later.
Control Yourself – Sometimes the biggest distractor in your day is yourself. Keep a pad and pen nearby and as you think of things that must be done, emails that should be composed, or other tasks that come up, jot them down. Set aside a time during the day to follow-up on this tickler file.
